SPH Brown Bag: Chronic Exposure to Traffic-Related Air Pollution and Cancer Risk: Are we all Susceptible?
November 12 @ 11:30 - 12:30 PST
Traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) is classified as a Group 1 human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, yet a relatively weak association is usually observed in population-based epidemiological studies. In his talk, Dr. Gerber will discuss two possible explanations for the latter phenomenon: (a) certainty of exposure and misclassification; and (b) differential susceptibility within the population.
Dr. Yariv Gerber is a Professor of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at Tel Aviv University (TAU). He is currently a Visiting Scholar in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Berkeley School of Public Health, and the Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente Northern California. Dr. Gerber had Previously been the Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Head of the MPH Program in the School of Public health at TAU. Dr. Gerber’s research covers topics related to the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, he has an interest in evaluating long-term prognosis after acute coronary syndrome and heart failure.
