Youth-Led Participatory Action Research (YPAR): Overview, Research Advances, and Challenges

Dr. Emily Ozer, PhD Professor, Community Health Sciences Co-Director, Innovations 4 Youth (i4Y), will discuss her research program on youth empowerment, participatory research, and adolescent development over the past 15 years, challenges, and next steps in the rapidly growing youth participation field. She will discuss the partnership context for local research on YPAR with SF Peer Resources and introduce a new Research-Practice Partnership with SF Unified School District. Research partners plan to attend the brown bag symposium to meet more of the SPH and broader UC Berkeley community. Emily J. Ozer is a Professor of Community Health Sciences and teaches graduate courses in behavioral science theory, mental health, community interventions and program evaluation. Her research interests include school-based health promotion and prevention programs, post-traumatic stress disorder and community-based participatory research.
