Jennifer Ahern named president-elect of the Society for Epidemiologic Research

Berkeley Public Health professor of epidemiology Jennifer Ahern has been named president-elect of the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER), the oldest and largest general epidemiology society in North America. Her term will begin June 17, 2020.

“I am honored to have been elected to lead SER,” Ahern says. “These are certainly times when epidemiology and social disparities are receiving close attention, and I look forward to collaborating with the SER community on how we can engage with the critical health and social issues we are facing.”

In her research, Ahern examines the effects of the social and physical environment, and programs and policies that alter the social and physical environment, on many aspects of health (e.g., violence, substance use, mental health, and gestational health. Her research has been supported by a New Innovator Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of the Director.
