Online MPH - Food, Nutrition, and Population Health Concentration
Our Food, Nutrition, and Population Health (FNPH) Concentration prepares students to address challenges in public health nutrition and food systems. By mastering skills in nutrition assessment, policy development, and program implementation, students learn to improve community health and advance solutions for food-related issues.

Program Overview
UC Berkeley’s MPH in Food, Nutrition, and Population Health focuses on addressing inequities in food and nutrition through systems-level change. By integrating interdisciplinary approaches, the program prepares students to:
- Assess and address public health nutrition challenges.
- Advocate for and implement data-informed food and nutrition policies.
- Design and lead programs that promote healthier, more equitable food systems.
- Focus on food sovereignty and resiliency, particularly in the context of climate change.
- Tackle nutrition inequities on both a local and global scale.

There are 6 required core and breadth courses for all students earning an MPH degree. These courses, taken primarily in the first year of the program, provide students with a foundation in the concepts and competencies relevant to addressing determinants of health, using both qualitative and data-driven approaches.

Elective Options
To complete the 42 units required for the MPH degree, students in the FNPH Concentration select 3 elective courses.
Courses can be taken in a variety of subject areas such as spacial data science, health policy, and advanced biostatistics. Your academic advising team can help you select elective courses based on your academic and career interests.
Course Planning & Advising
The UC Berkeley Online MPH Program provides comprehensive advising to support students throughout their studies. Each enrolled student is assigned a dedicated Program Manager, in addition to a faculty advisor. The Program Manager works closely with students to plan their courses and ensure they complete the required 42 units on time.
