Berkeley Public Health Online MPH program ranked in top three by Fortune Magazine

In April 2022, Fortune Magazine released its first-ever Online Public Health Master’s rankings, placing the UC Berkeley School of Public Health’s Online/On-Campus Professional MPH Program at No. 3.

“We launched our Online/On-Campus Professional MPH Program ten years ago,” said program director Deborah Barnett, PhD. “Now, we’ve hit our stride, having trained 550  public health changemakers over the past decade. Our graduates have advanced their careers while being able to balance work and home life. We are proud to have been named one of the top three online MPH programs in the country by Fortune.”

The business magazine ranked online MPH programs for the first time after seeing demand for such programs skyrocket during the COVID-19 pandemic. “During the pandemic, online master of public health programs saw a big uptick in interest as demand for everything from biostatisticians to epidemiologists took off,” wrote Fortune. “The jobs these graduates are going into aren’t just growing a little bit—they’re seeing big growth. Between 2020 and 2023, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the total number of biostatistic and epidemiology jobs will jump 33% and 30%, respectively.”

“I am truly proud of our online program and seeing students use the ideas and values they’re learning from some of the world’s top public health scientists, to make an impact in their own communities,” said Dean Michael C. Lu, MD, MS, MPH.
