Brian TaeHyuk Keum honored by Asian American Psychological Association
Associate Professor Brian TaeHyuk Keum has been awarded the Early Career Award for Research by the Asian American Psychological Association.
This award recognizes ”distinguished contributions to the field of Asian American Psychology from a psychologist early in his or her career.” Award winners demonstrate achievement in the development or advancement of psychological theories in Asian American psychology or noteworthy research contributions that further the knowledge base of Asian American psychology.
Keum’s research focuses on health and mental health disparities in Asian American communities through a culturally-informed, intersectional lens. He holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and joined the faculty at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health in July 2025.
“I am extremely honored to receive the early career award from AAPA,” said Keum. “I first attended AAPA in 2012 in Hawaii as a master’s student. Through AAPA, the colleagues I met, the mentorship I received, and the community I was able to lean on, all had a profound affirmative impact on my identity as a person and an academic focused on Asian American mental health. This award reflects the significant impact of my intersectional inquiries (past and ongoing) on Asian American mental health in the communities.”
