Health Policy and Management doctoral student selected as RWJF Health Policy Research Scholar
We are proud to announce that Alexander Adia, a doctoral student in the Health Policy and Management division at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, has been selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy Research Scholar.
This RWJF leadership program connects changemakers across the country—from diverse professions and fields—to learn from and work with one another in creating more just and thriving communities. Designed for doctoral students from historically marginalized backgrounds and populations underrepresented in specific disciplines, Health Policy Research Scholars helps students from all fields apply their work to policies that advance equity and health while building a diverse network of leaders who reflect our changing national demographics.
As a member of the program’s newest cohort, Adia’s work will focus on inequities in health services and policy. Their research specifically examines how changes in policy and market structures can have heterogeneous impacts across different groups, with a focus on racial and ethnic health disparities. Adia’s current interests target how structural inequities in the social determinants of health and healthcare service provision manifest in potentially preventable hospitalizations and medical debt, with the goal of identifying policies and interventions that can make meaningful progress on these fronts.
