Governor Gavin Newsom Names Richard Scheffler to Healthy California for All Commission
This week, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Richard Scheffler, Professor of Health Economics and Public Policy at the School of Public Health and Goldman School of Public Policy, to serve on his new Healthy California for All Commission. The Commission is charged with developing a plan to achieve universal coverage for all Californians. The Commission is composed of 13 voting members, including California Health and Human Services Secretary Mark Ghaly, eight gubernatorial appointees (including Scheffler), and four legislative appointees.
“I am extremely honored to serve on the new Commission,” said Dr. Scheffler. “We need to move towards universal coverage with a sustainable financing system, and I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues on the Commission to help make the healthcare system accessible and affordable to all Californians,” he said.
Richard M. Scheffler is also the director of the Nicholas C. Petris Center on Health Care Markets and Consumer Welfare, a health economics research center.
The Commission is expected to produce an initial report to the Governor and legislature by July 2020 and make final recommendations in early 2021.
