New Test Instantly Identifies Antibiotic-Resistant Superbugs

In a joint effort, researchers at the School of Public Health and the College of Engineering developed a new test that can identify the type of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections in patients within minutes in order to better prescribe antibiotics.

School of Public Health Professor Dr. Lee Riley commented on the importance of this new tool, “Drug-resistant infections are a silent pandemic that actually kill more people every year than Zika or Ebola. The faster you can start the right drug, the better the chances of survival or avoiding complications.”
